In their latest tasting series for the renowned American WineEnthusiast Magazine (www.winemag.com) sets Anne Krebiehl MW crown our wines. Our Pinot Blanc Ried Höchtemmel 2017, Sauvignon Blanc Ried Gaisriegl 2017, Sauvignon Blanc Südsteiermark 2018 and Riesling Kitzeck-Sausal 2018 were honoured.

The birthplaces of our expressive wines are vineyards exposed to the east and south in Kitzeck-Sausal at an altitude of up to 580 metres above sea level, which lend the wines an inimitable coolness and minerality. The vines are rooted 100 per cent on barren, red slate soil and can only be worked by hand due to the steep slope. The Gaisriegl vineyard, our home vineyard, has been in the family for the longest time and is the origin of the Schauer winemaking tradition. Alongside Ried Höchtemmel, these two are two of our most important vineyards in Kitzeck-Sausal.

And for all those who have not yet had our wines in their glass, Anne Krebiehl MW describes them like this:

95 points

Pinot Blanc Ried Höchtemmel 2017: "Bright, vivid lemon notes share the nose with a wonderful creaminess. The palate continues in this sunny, pure lemon and cream version, presenting a concentrated body that comes on light, tiptoe feet. This is fresh but creamy, slender but mellow and oh so wonderfully textured. This makes the case for Weißburgunder, aka Pinot Blanc, of the highest order. Lovely now, it is certain to evolve. Drink now until 2035."

Sauvignon Blanc Ried Gaisriegl 2017: "A hint of smoke and a touch of flint on the nose slowly give way to a nutty, lemony note. The palate displays smoky hazelnut, lemon, apricot and a creaminess that still has to knit together. This is not ready yet but holds all the elements of future glory. The acidity is bright and luminous, the body balanced, the fruit vibrant and the finish dry. Drink 2023-2040."

Sauvignon Blanc Südsteiermark DAC 2018: "Subtle white summer blossom plays scentedly above the green-moss and lemon notes on the nose. The palate comes in with zesty concentration despite the slenderness and charm, with slight fizziness. This is light, bright but oh so expressive-totally refreshing and wonderfully dry."

Riesling Kitzeck-Sausal 2018: "A lovely touch of flinty reduction still plays amid the savory, herbal, citric notions of this beautifully aromatic Riesling. The palate takes up a certain playfulness and flits across the tongue with a light, easy, vivid step. Despite the 2018 ripeness, there is a breeziness that promises full, lasting and uplifting refreshment."
